Michael Murphy's music projects are quite diverse: Solo, or his bands, the MOB (electric blues and rock), or his newer acoustic-based project, Street Corner Prophets!
Performing solo or with Street Corner Prophets, his songs are much different than those he plays with his electric band, the MOB. His "solo" and "SCP" performances are played on acoustic instruments and are very reminiscent of the old coffeehouse days! Although, Murphy only knows one way to play and sing, honest, heartfelt, and aggressive!
His band, the MOB, is a three-to-four piece, electric, blues-based combo. They offer both blues and '60s and '70s classic and folk-rock covers as well as Michael's original songs, which are all given Murphy's blues-based style. As one young fan said, after spending an evening with Murphy and the band, "For an old guy, you play really young!" The Big Dog responded, "Aw, that's just the Raisin Bran!"
So, whatever the venues' needs, Michael Murphy can fill them all!
HOUSE CONCERT, ANYONE?
If you're not familiar with what is a HOUSE CONCERT, simply put, it is an "invitation-only" performance in someone’s home! Typically, the host does not profit from the event, but the artists are paid by a suggested donation, usually $10-$20, from those that attend. Attendees are customarily the host's friends, neighbors, maybe acquaintances from their jobs, and perhaps even some of the artist's fans.
HOUSE CONCERTS are typically held indoors and the common attendance is anywhere from 20-50 people. With COVID-19 defining crowd size, care should be given to social distancing and the rules of the State in which you reside regarding gathering size. Most hosts offer snacks and beverages or even hold a pot-luck or sit-down dinner affair with the entertainment following. The performer, since the stage setting is usually a large living room space, may bring a small P.A. or none at all! And the beauty of a House Concert is that it's intimate and the audience can literally sit at the artist's feet! (Again, as long as required, respect the social distancing!)
So, if you're tired of struggling with a boozy, loud crowd while trying to listen to live music, a HOUSE CONCERT provides a perfect, super-intimate setting. For the attendees, it's a friendly, engaging, up-close, and personal live music event. For the artist, it’s a night away from the bars, where they can see and hear an audience reaction that is not hidden by big stages and bright lights!
